Star Ave Fire...

See the red line on the mountains? Flame retardant. This area of Old Bisbee was burning all last night into today, though most was contained by morning. We just looked houses up on Star Ave recently and it sounds like one that was just sold ended up being one that burned. Coming back into the city and saw this...

So glad the crew on their way to the fire near Nogales saw Bisbee burning. They got there before anyone else was able to call it in, and the video of the planes dropping slurry is amazing. Thankful for all the other local, state, and federal departments that responded and saved the rest of the town. Thankfully all burnt structures were vacant as far as what was reported.

Yes, this flame retardant is also toxic to fish and can cause run-off issues making after-fire flooding worse... It also works in conjunction with all other firefighting efforts to keep people and their homes, livelihoods, livestock, and everything else safe. Depending on the area, however, they sometimes just let it all burn and don't even use things like this. As people build in more remote areas, that definitely will change over time unless different and more efficient/safe techniques are developed.
